Perform Australia – Weekly Drama & Acting Programs
Looking for something fun to do? We have some fantastic programs around Canberra in acting, filmmaking and musical theatre. Whether you’re new to acting or an old hand, there’s bound to be something to interest you!
Speech Bubbles Drama Program (ages 4-6)
Perform Australia’s ‘Speech Bubbles’ program is a fantastic weekly 45-minute speech and drama class in school terms designed especially for 4-6 year-olds. We recognise and celebrate that children in this age group have an innate ability to be creative, and we harness and channel that energy towards foundational performance skills.

Razzle Dazzlers – Drama (ages 6-9)
The Razzle Dazzlers program is specially designed for children aged six to nine. Each weekly lesson is one hour long and introduces children to the skills of performance through drama games, exercises, and creative play. In this way, children begin to develop the essential skills of the actor, working on their voices, movement, and creating characters.

Acting (ages 10-14)
“Footlights” is our acting program for 10-14 year-olds. In a theatre, the ‘footlights’ are set at the base of the stage and illuminate the actors from below – so this program is all about giving you the chance to shine!
In Footlights, students work on scripts for stage and screen, and in so doing, acquire the important skills of the actor: line-learning, creating characters, analysing text, as well as exploring aspects of producing a good performance, such as embodying a character and using one’s voice more effectively. A fun and social class exploring what it means to be an actor.

Acting (ages 15-17)
When you become a member of Company, you’ll be applying and refining your acting skills in a wide range of theatrical and cinematic styles. You’ll be learning through scene work, improvisation, monologues, acting for camera, mask and mime, and character development. Screen work involves learning the skills of acting for camera, as well as presenting duologues and monologues which can be watched back and analysed.
Script content varies from term to term, but may involve anything from investigation of current social issues, through to exploring familiar character types and archetypes, heightened language, and how to create believable performances. Actors in company would be well-prepared to move on to our Certificate IV in Acting for Stage and Screen if they so choose.

Musical Theatre (ages 14-18)
If you imagine yourself on stage in Wicked, Hamilton, The Lion King or even Dear Evan Hansen, this could be the program for you! The Musical Theatre Experience (MTX) is aimed at students who are keen to explore a wide range of musical theatre repertoire.
Taught by industry professionals, MTX helps students develop their individual skills as a performer while also working towards important ensemble performance skills. Your tutor will give you individual coaching in the context of a group class to help you advance quickly as a performer.
